Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel have detained a Myanmar citizen along with 230,000 yaba tablets. The arrest took place yesterday, Saturday, around 7 PM, at the embankment area of Jaliapara in the Hnila Union of Teknaf Upazila, Cox's Bazar.

The detained individual, Abdur Shukkur (21), is a resident of the Naf River area in Maungdaw Township, Myanmar, and the son of deceased Saleh Ahmed. Lieutenant Colonel Ashiqur Rahman, the commander of Teknaf-2 BGB Battalion, confirmed this information to Prothom Alo.

According to BGB sources, yesterday evening, a patrol team of the Teknaf-2 BGB Battalion was stationed near the Naf River in the southeastern part of the Jaliapara area under the Hnila border outpost. During the patrol, BGB members noticed two individuals swimming across the Naf River with sacks on their shoulders, crossing the zero line of the border and heading toward Jaliapara. When signaled by the BGB, the individuals attempted to flee, leaving the sacks behind. One of them was apprehended, and two plastic sacks were recovered, containing a total of 230,000 yaba tablets.

Lieutenant Colonel Ashiqur Rahman stated that during interrogation, Abdur Shukkur confessed to smuggling yaba consignments from Myanmar to Bangladesh for a long time. A case has been filed under the Narcotics Control Act, and he has been handed over to Teknaf Model Police Station.
